Can Dogs Eat Marmite?

Why it is risky
Marmite is a yeast-extract spread with around 4–5g of salt per 100g. Dogs need very little sodium and are prone to salt toxicity at higher intakes. Marmite also contains onion powder in some recipes and is high in glutamate. A dab on a lick-mat won't hurt most healthy adult dogs, but it should never be a daily treat and is a poor choice for dogs with heart, kidney or liver disease.
Safe portion
At most a very thin smear on a lick-mat or puzzle feeder, no more than occasionally.
Symptoms to watch for
Salt toxicity: excessive thirst, vomiting, diarrhoea, tremors, seizures — call a vet if a dog eats a large amount.
