6 Foods That Settle a Dog's Upset Stomach

When your dog's stomach is in knots, kibble is too harsh. Switch to these bland, soothing foods for a few days.

1. Boiled chicken breast

Skinless, boneless, plain. Lean, digestible protein — shred and serve at room temperature.

2. Plain white rice

Low fibre but highly digestible. Cook thoroughly, cool before serving.

3. Pure canned pumpkin

The universal stool regulator. 1 tsp for small dogs, up to 2 tbsp for large dogs. Never pie filling.

4. Plain live-culture yogurt

Small amounts of natural probiotics. Check labels — anything with xylitol is fatal to dogs.

5. Boiled sweet potato

Gentle carbs and fibre. Mashed, unseasoned.

6. Bone broth (onion & garlic free)

Hydrates and provides collagen and amino acids. Great for dogs who won't drink water.

The bland-diet protocol

Feed 50% chicken + 50% rice for 2–3 days, then transition back to normal food (with a probiotic) over the following 4–5 days. If vomiting persists more than 24 hours, see the vet.
