Why it is toxic
Dogs are far more sensitive to alcohol than people, and a small dog can be affected by a few laps of a drink. It can cause a dangerous drop in blood sugar, body temperature and blood pressure. Hidden sources include cocktails, liqueur chocolates, rum-soaked Christmas cake and raw bread dough, which produces alcohol as it ferments.
Symptoms to watch for
Vomiting, wobbliness, drowsiness, slow or difficult breathing, low body temperature, tremors and collapse. Contact your vet straight away.
