A commonly cited daily target is around 50–60 ml of water per kg of body weight, more in heat or with dry-kibble diets.

Signs of inadequate intake

  • Concentrated, dark yellow urine
  • Skin that's slow to spring back when tented
  • Reduced energy in the afternoon
