Why it is safe
Plain white or brown bread isn't toxic to dogs. The danger is in what's added: raisins in fruit loaf, garlic in garlic bread, chocolate, some seeds and nuts, and xylitol in some sugar-free breads. Raw bread dough is an emergency.
Safe portion
A small piece of plain bread as an occasional treat. Don't let it replace meals.
